Healthy Cooking Tips for Ziploc Bags
Zipper loc bags are very versatile and have many uses in the kitchen.
- You can use them to coat food with batter, flour or crumbs. Place the crumbs you need to coat and drop the food to be coated, seal and shake vigorously.
- You can use it to make crumbs for cooking, pie crust or baby's food. Place crispy food items like chapathi, bread, nuts, cookies, crackers, etc, seal and roll with a heavy item or a rolling pin till the crumbs reach the desired consistency.
- You can use them to marinate foods as the marinating liquid remain in constant contact with the food. Mix the marinate directly in the bag, add the food and suck out excess air with a straw. Refrigerate and turn the bag once in a while.
- You can use the larger Ziploc bags as a base for rolling out sticky dough like stuffed paratha, puran poli, etc. You can also roll pastry dough right inside the bag, without having to flour them.
- It can improvise as a pipe frosting. Snip off a tiny corner to use a Ziploc as a pastry bag.
- You can use it to knead dough, so your fingers don't get messy. Or slip one into your hand like a glove and knead the dough.
- Salad in a bag. You can mix salad ingredients in a zipper-lock bag, add the dressing, seal and shake to coat.
- You can use it store liquid ingredients in the freezer. Hold it upright in a vessel and fill it up with the gravy, soup or stew and suck out the excess air with a straw. Place the bag flat in the freezer till it freezes and then store them upright. To reheat, simply place the bag in a pot of simmering water until the contents thaw and heat up.
