Iron
Iron is needed for the formation of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen from the lungs to the body cells. It also aids in collagen synthesis and normal immune function.
Iron Deficiency Symptoms
Iron plays a key role in preparing our immune system fight those infections, a deficiency may lead to colds. Low iron can also cause fatigue, pallor and listlessness - a characteristic case of anemia. In children, low levels of iron can cause stunted growths and impaired learning. In India, one of the fist foods toddlers eat is a millet called Ragi. This is rich in iron and helps with brain development. Split nails, sore tongue, cold hands and feet, restless legs syndrome - they are all attributed to low iron levels.

Iron Toxicity
Excess Iron intake can lead to organ damage, especially the liver and heart and can also lead to cancer. Acute iron poisoning in children can result in damage to the intestinal tract, and can cause liver damage, nausea and vomiting, shock and death.
