Anaemia Home Remedies
Anemia can be naturally treated with dandelion, nettles, amla, fennel and other herbal ingredients. Anemia is a blood disorder that results from the shortage of hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of the body, but when there is no sufficient hemoglobin, all parts of the body, including the brain, are starved of oxygen. And the heart compensates by pumping more blood more often.
The most common type of anemia is due to iron deficiency. Anemia can also be caused by a deficiency in B12 or folate. Iron deficit anemia occurs when there is a massive or chronic blood loss generally associated with surgery, bleeding ulcers, heavy menstrual periods and intestinal cancer. Iron deficiency is most prevalent in infants, pregnant women, vegetarians, people with rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases.
Anemia Symptoms
Classic symptoms of anemia are the paleness of the skin and fatigue. Fatigue causes the patient shortness of breath, higher heart rate and difficulty in concentrating.
Anemia Lifestyle Choices
- As much as possible, cook your dishes in cast iron pots and pans. The food will absorb some of the minerals from the cookware.
Anemia Diet
- The best sources of iron are animal products - meat, fish, poultry and egg yolks. The body absorbs much more of the heme iron found in these foods than the nonheme iron from plant sources, such as green leafy vegetables, dried fruits, soy and other legumes.
- Combining iron-rich foods with citrus or other fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C increases iron absorption.
- Avoid oxalic rich foods like spinach, rhubarb, tomatoes and chocolate. Food high in oxalic acid inhibit the body's ability to absorb iron.
- Sodas, dairy products, coffee and black tea also interfere with iron absorption, eliminate them from your diet.
